Heaven's Gift
As Samantha’s eyes opened slowly the bright sunlight shined in from her window. It was Saturday morning; she had to be up by nine o’clock a.m. to go to help her mother at her bakery down the street. Samantha is seventeen years old and has never worked a day in her life, but her father was recently fired from his job and her mother’s bakery wasn’t getting much business anymore. Her mother was forced to fire her helper, so Samantha volunteered to help her mother work at the bakery.Samantha has always been such a warm-hearted person, ready to help out anytime she can. She comes from a very loving family, in which she cherishes with all of her heart. She is close with her parents, especially her mother. When she arrived at the bakery her mother greeted her at the door with a warm hug. Her mother appreciates her help and she loves her daughter with a very deep love. They work together making doughnuts and other cakes until five o’clock. Samantha has to leave soon so she would have time to get ready for her date. As she was getting ready to leave she noticed how weak her mother seemed. She asked if there was anything wrong, but her mother replied that she was only worn out from a long day of baking. Sam
Samantha’s eyes were throbbing, she was in so much pain, and she didn’t want to live if her mother couldn’t. She tried to be strong in front of her mom, and she always kept a smile on here face. “The doctor said that I can try to take chemotherapy, but he don’t know if it will help,” strained Samantha’s mother. As soon as Samantha’s parents arrived home from the doctor, Samantha comes downstairs to see what the doctor said about her mother’s weakness and pain. Her father and mother seemed to be a little worried. “The doctor told me it didn’t seem to be anything serious, but he took my blood for tests to make sure”, said her mother. The results would be back in three to five days. Samantha felt a great relief come over her. Her father brought good news also, he received a call today and it was his boss wanting him to return to work. Today was a good day for Samantha. When the family finally realized this horrible news was a reality they sat in the living room and discussed whether chemotherapy should be considered. Mother said she didn’t want to go through all those treatments, but Samantha and her father insisted. Samantha couldn’t accept this at all. She loved and depended on her mother so much. She tried not to think of what was coming for the family, but just cherish the last few breaths her mother exhaled. In her last month Samantha catered to her every need.
