Qualities of a Successful Work Environment

We live in a world today, where the youth is now coming in front of us and serving as the torchbearers of an uncertain future. The times that we have spent over years, a large line of demarcation has been seen and witnessed over the passage of time. People that have been part of the society and system understand and feel the dramatic change of employers and employees working in the industries from around the world. Outdated patterns of work, information dissemination and all the other areas have been called as an influence, an impact that has still yet to be addressed and debated for over the times in connection with organizational progress and development has occurred (Belton, 2011, pp. 30) this essay focuses on the kind of supervision and staff discussion that people over the period of time. The emphasis will be base on the influence of staff and the supervisory methods that are adopted for effective counseling, helping and support needed to ensure that employees are aware of the

The Basics of Automotive Painting

Abstract A waterborne basecoat system for vehicle refinishes consists of pigment concentrates called mixing bases and a mixing clear. PPG paints and clears are pretty much the only thing that really sells a car, having a bad paintjob could not only bring the value of a vehicle down but it can also have major effects such as rust spots, orange peel, fish eyes, and poor coverage. The importance of a high quality paintjob cannot be underestimated. The right paint brand and the right color when applied the right way can truly transform the way your car looks, whether repairing damage to the paint or getting a completely new paintjob. Details such as a paint brand may seem minor, but they can make a massive difference to the way our car looks. Skilled paint shop technicians understand all of this, so customers can be assured that their car's paintjob will be done right, the first time and with only the highest factory-quality paints. Materials An automotive technician will need to start

A Cancer Chemo-Prevention Compromise

Chemo-prevention requires treatments that are administered to assumedly healthy, symptom free subjects without cancer, but do have risk elements associated with an increased probability to develop the cancer which the experimental intervention is theorized to condense (Lancet 1). So, chemo-prevention exploration encompasses vulnerable research clients which are neither patients diagnosed with disease, as in management studies, or classic vigorous volunteers. While both cancer treatment and chemo-prevention trials involve agents that can cause side effects in individuals, chemo-prevention trials depart from treatment trials with respect to the entity of potential benefit. In trials of cancer treatment or of "adjuvant therapies" (secondary prevention), subjects either have a diagnosis of cancer or a significant chance of disease relapse (Bedard 1). This means they have practical outlooks of solid advantage from current or investigational treatments. In contrast, the immense b

Anna Karenina - Sympathy and Apathy

After reading Leo Tolstoy's, Anna Karenina, most people can agree that some of the major actions that decided the fate of some character's lives and most importantly the novel were considered fallacious. Even in the novel, society deemed some of them as being evil/immoral but of all the characters to perform these deceiving and beguiling actions, I've decided to analyze the actions of the protagonist, Anna Karenina. Anna's overall life throughout the novel was full of pleasure and deceitfulness and we see how she suffered immensely because of her mistakes. Yet as readers of the novel, with the information we know about the situation that Anna is in, should we sympathize for Anna because of the wretched life she had to live or do we simply let it go and acknowledge her situation as a "you get what you deserve" kind of situation? I firmly believe that if we take a look at Anna's character throughout the whole novel we can compile some reasons as to why we should sympathize for

Color and Learning Comprehension

Abstract Over the years, numerous experiments have been conducted to test whether or not printing text on colored paper increases reading comprehension skills versus printing text on white paper. Previous experiments suggest that reading text printed on green paper will improve learning and performance for students. In the present study, I conducted an experiment to test whether or not printing elementary reading comprehension questions on colored paper instead of white paper is more effective for learning. Data was collected on oral reading fluency, comprehension, and the speed of the participant. The conclusion of this study supports my hypothesis. Introduction Many people believe that using colored printing paper, rather than plain white printing paper can improve learning and performance for students. Does printing text on colored paper increase reading comprehension skills compared to printing test on white paper? There is evidence that students who fail to acquire adequate rea

The Travesty of the Columbine Massacre

Littleton, Colorado, like every other small town in America, awoke April 20th, 1999 to what seemed to be a normal day with everyone going about their business as they have countless times before. Unlike the other towns in America, however, two high school seniors at Littleton's Columbine High School set out to ensure that this day would go down in history as one of the most devastating and tragic days in American history. They succeeded. As media outlets broadcasted the images of swat vans and police surrounding the once tranquil building of Columbine High School, two teens, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold were busy acting out their fantasy of going on a shooting rampage through their school. They, along with 12 of their classmates and one teacher will be dead in less than one hour but their act will forever be imprinted on the national psyche. The Columbine incident will be the biggest school shooting until the Virginia Tech massacre in 2007 but the attack holds a special place i

Thoreau and Principles for Living

The conservation of a balance between nature and civilization has always been a heavy duty for mankind. However, keeping a fair balance has begun to lose its meanings by the rapid growth in the development of industries and human desires for a higher good. Such growth in human kind gradually pushed men closer to yet to be discovered parts of wilderness that were once feared and avoided by many. Such movement was largely influenced by the writer of the novel Walden, Henry David Thoreau, especially by his approach of romanticizing a deliberate life in the wilderness. Critics, such as William Cronon, note that romanticists such as Thoreau fails to comprehend the true form of nature; and also that the influence that Walden had given the American men and women had brought forward some undesired side effects to the relationship between nature and civilization (destruction, pollution and extortion toward nature). However it is clear that Thoreau's romanticism of nature was solely aimed to bet

Cultural Diversity in Australian Schools

Introduction Australia is one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse nations in the world with over 6 million Australian residents born overseas, 25% of the population with a language background other than English and over 75% identifying with an ancestry other than 'Australian'. (ABS, 2011) This paper will examine the issue of cultural diversity in Australian schools and assess government policy which addresses multiculturalism and its impact on students' educational experience and outcomes. To begin with this paper will outline the key points raised by Julie McLeod's article 'Educating society' and assess the extent to which Australian schooling challenges the inequalities associated with cultural diversity. The contention of this paper is that policy is being guided by an increasing awareness of the implications of a multicultural society and aims to challenge the inequalities faced by students with a diverse cultural and linguistic background. However, altho

ISIS - A Symptom of a Political Condition

It's been thirteen years since the horrific 9/11 attacks on America by Al Qaeda. Since then, Americans and its allies have vowed to fight and end terrorism and their supporters in the Middle East while terrorist groups continue to grow. Today, Americans and its allies face a new radical foe who call themselves ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria). If the United States would focus on the root of the problem, could we finally take steps forward in the war of terrorism and the rise of new radical groups such as ISIS, in engaging Iran in making policies for the region and managing terrorist activities? In Iraq, for instance, what helped ISIS to grow? After the defeat of Saddam Hussein regiment, Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki of Iraq excluded Iraqi Sunnis from having any power in the government and favored the majority in population: the Shia. In doing so, he incorporated several policies. Among them was the use of Iraq's counterterrorism laws which would allow him to imprison Sunnis in

The Theology of Religion

Some form of religion is something every culture has in common. Although we all share the general idea of religion, our religious beliefs differ drastically. We maintain peace with others that have different beliefs through an academic understanding. The key for this academic understanding, at least from a Catholic point of view, is through Christian interreligious dialogue and the Catholic Theology of Religion. The academic study of religion seems like a very cut and dry topic, but in entails a great deal of detail and understanding to comprehend. I can speak from personal experience that after 12 years of Catholic teachings in primary and high school and even physically visiting and studying in the Vatican, that I continue to struggle with the topic of studying merely Catholicism. The essence of the academic approach is broken into four main parts according to scholars: to define, to compare, to analyze, and to explain. Giving generalized definitions and comparing and contrasting isn't necessarily the difficult task. The problem

Strigilated Sarcophagus

The Strigilated Sarcophagus with Carved Panels of Satyrs and Maenads (c. 3rd century C.E.) is a marble sarcophagus that has panels of satyrs and maenads carved into panels. The sarcophagus is large enough to encase a human body lying down. The figures are carved using mostly high relief. The creatures on the sides of the sarcophagus are carved in low relief. The fabrics on the figures emphasize the folds to make it look realistic. Because of accentuating dancing satyrs and maenads, the artist creates an effect of festivity. The artist emphasizes a type of joyful event by depicting the human figures dancing. The female figures on the work are maenads, which represent ecstatic frenzy through dancing and intoxication. The male figures are satyrs, which are a type of deity that spend their ti

Finding Peace in a Psychologist's Chair

A reassuring and friendly smile warmly greets me as soon as I approach the front desk. Trembling ever so slightly, I take the clipboard and allow myself to be ushered into the waiting room. As I glance around my surroundings, I slowly sink into the chair right next to the fish tank. Taking a look at the clipboard I start to realize just how real this is all becoming for me, I'm finally doing it, I'm taking the beginning steps to fix my life. Years ago I never thought I'd find myself in this chair, terrified of being psychoanalyzed, along with petrified of being completely vulnerable. Yet somehow, the waiting room comforts me, and makes the reality a little less threatening. I'm not entirely sure what it is about this room that I like so much. I don't know if its the posters, pamphlets, magazines, and books that are all geared to be positive and helpful that surround me and are within an arms reach. Or perhaps it is the TV screen that consistently plays calming scenes like waves rollin

Breaking Cultural Bounds

Clothes is about a young Indian woman, Sumita, and her cultural transition to America which is symbolized through the clothes that she chooses to wear. The author, Divakaruni, allows Sumita to be one of the few that actually escape cultural bounds to become an individual. By choosing certain types of clothing, Sumita is actually making decisions on how to live about her life. The use of symbolism in this text plays a major role to developing a chronological portrayal of Sumita's choices and how they affect the overall theme of this short story. By naming the story Clothes, Divakaruni takes the titles and changes it into a symbol that furthers the meanings of the clothes. In this instance, Sumita's clothes symbolize her journey from her old native country traditions in India to her new independence in her and her husband's new apartment in America. In the beginning of the story, Sumita's clothes are traditional saris, and she is accustomed to wearing them. For the b

Moments of Influence

Have you ever been influenced by some important person that helped you be the person that you are today? I have been. The people that have had influence on me are the most important humans beings, my family. One of the places that we spend most of our time is the family room. This room is so big and cozy. It includes comfy furniture, a huge tv, windows with a great view, and an amazing family to spend time in. The walls also include some old and even new pictures, mirrors, and some great quotes in nice picture frames. I love to watch movies, do homework, and also just rest in this room. So this is our room, which is very important to us and has a lot of special things. The most special part of this room is when it brings my family together. My immediate family consist of my dad, my brother and me. We may be small, but they are worth more than anything. I am not really close to my mom or her side of the family. There were some issues with her when I was born, and I haven't seen her sinc

The Tragedy that Changed My Life

It has been ten years since this incident occurred. Ten years is a long time but, I still haven't been able to overcome my emotions. I was only 10 years old then. My mother was not well; she was suffering from cancer. I used to go to the hospital everyday to visit her. One such day my father dropped me off at the hospital and went away as he had an important meeting. I went to my mother's ward but surprisingly she was not in her room. I panicked. I thought I was lost in the hospital .My legs started trembling. The very thought of getting lost in that gloomy place gave me goosebumps. But finally; I gathered courage and went to the nurse's room. My mother's nurse was sitting there. I felt relieved and walked straight to her. But alas! my happiness was short-lived. The nurse told me that my mother was in the ICU.I was thunderstruck. Her words were like a bolt out of blue. The nurse tried to pacify me, but was unable to do so. When I regained my senses, I ran straight to the ICU. On rea

Health of Ancient South American Peoples

Paleopathological examination of a skeleton can reveal intricacies in the life way of persons of the past. Several studies have been conducted to obtain information for a comparative analysis of post-contact diseases inflicted upon the Americas to trace the origin or presence of certain infectious diseases, particularly those normally associated with Columbian contact e.g. the syphilis (Gerzsten et al. 1997). It should be noted that evidence of pre-contact syphilis in South America is not present. This paper examines several separate studies of disease and trauma in pre-Columbian South America. Gathering several sources that cover a broadd scope will present insight on diseases and other stressors that affected the South American population prior to colonialism through a full analysis of the body. Taking this approach will subsequently create a plausible image of life, socio-economic inequality, and subsistence of various strata in the emerging settlement hierarchies and the latter soc

The Adventures of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was a Scottish doctor, author, and poet. He is most remembered for his stories involving the world famous detective, Sherlock Holmes. Although his fictional crime stories revolutionized the detective genre, he also wrote a great deal about spiritualism. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was an intelligent child who wrote his first novel at age six. Though initially educated at home, his wealthy uncles soon realized his potential and enrolled him at a Jesuit Preparatory School (Carr 5). Soon after he graduated to Stonyhurst College he began writing long letters home to his mother and adventure stories that he would read aloud to his classmates. They ended up serving as models for Conan Doyle's most famous characters, in particular two brothers named Moriarty and Sherlock (Person 10). After attending Stonyhurst, he entered Edinburgh University as a medical student in 1876 where he received his medical degree in 1882. In his spare time, however, he began to write stories pu

Media and How We View the World

This essay will discuss the way the media shapes the way we think about the world, in particular the way the media shapes our views on terrorism. It will look at the way Muslims and Arabs have been portrayed in different media outlets. The media outlets it will look at are films, news broadcasts and animation. As such, it will focus on how the media uses imagery to manipulate our understandings of Muslim and Arab culture as an example of how the media shapes our views on identity. Additionally, it will look at how the media has been used by the government to aid social control by creating a politics of fear discourse that has allowed it to infringe on civil liberties and create support for US foreign policy. Thus, this essay will be split in two parts; it will begin by looking at how the media has shaped our everyday perceptions of identity. Secondly, it will look at how the media been used to create a discourse of fear that has led to support for US foreign policy and civil right's

Presidents Jefferson and Madison

Thomas Jefferson and James Madison were the first of the nineteenth century Presidents of the United States. During their presidencies, the most dominate political parties were the Jeffersonian Republicans and the Federalists. Before the presidencies of Jefferson and Madison, the Jeffersonian Republicans were known as strict constructionists. They were supporters of the rights of states and the restriction of federal powers. They only believed that the government had the powers that were enumerated and explicitly written within the Constitution. On the other hand, the Federalists were known as broad constructionists before the presidencies of Jefferson and Madison. The Federalists were supporters of the growth of federal power and a strong central government. They believed in the Elastic Clause, which allowed the Constitution to be up to individual interpretation. With this, the Federalists gave the government powers that could only be implied-these powers were not explicitly written

Fuel Cell Technology Opportunities & Challenges

Hydrogen is already a major commodity in the U.S. economy and production could readily be expanded to serve new markets. More than 50 million metric tons are produced annually worldwide (11 million metric tons in the United States), principally from SMR (steam methane reforming) of natural gas. Much of this hydrogen is used in petroleum refineries, in the production of ammonia for fertilizers and other chemicals, and in food processing. Current hydrogen output is sufficient to provide fuel for 250 million fuel cell vehicles worldwide (55 million in the United States). Given the emergence of large and accessible natural gas resources in the United States at historically low prices, hydrogen production using traditional central SMR technology could increase substantially to serve new fuel cell vehicle markets without straining the natural gas supply system and at the same time reduce petroleum imports. Large and small-scale hydrogen production technologies are already commercially availa

The Lost Ark of the Covenant

The Ark of the Covenant is one of the most sacred objects of the Judeo-Christian religion. Its mysterious disappearance is intensified by its mystical powers as told in the stories of the Bible. Two theories attempt to explain the mystery. One possibility is either King Solomon and/or Josiah preemptively hid the ark before the Babylonian invasion with its present whereabouts unknown. The other theory is that the ark was taken by the Ethiopian ruler, Menelik I, son of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba where it remains hidden away in a church. The latter is the most alluring theory of the lost ark because of the powerful relationship between King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba, the accounts in the "Kebra Negast, " and the religious rites still practiced today by Ethiopian Christians. Queen of Sheba is herself a powerful, wealthy woman. When she learns of King Solomon's reputation for spiritual wisdom, she is intrigued and travels to test his

Identifying Discrimination at Work

Researchers in the article Identifying Discrimination at Work: the Use of Field Experiments, explore the social problem of discrimination which is observed in the workplace. Discrimination at work is generally understood as an unwanted, unfair and unethical behavior at work place on the basis of somebody's cast, color, creed, ethnicity, gender religion, or national origin. This discrimination is committed through the series of discrimination acts, which exist in the work places of the society. Some of the examples of discrimination at work can be unequal pay, wrongful termination and demoralizing attitude. However, there are different kinds of discriminations, which may be easy or very difficult to understand in a general context (Pager & Western, 2012). Most of the times, people themselves are unaware that they have been treated unfairly at job places. For example, if an employee receives a letter of termination on some act, which he is wrongfully accused of, he knew that he have bee

The Role of Intelligence in the Cuban Crisis

In the book, One Minute to Midnight, Michael Dobbs takes us back to a time when the world came closer to nuclear destruction than ever before. The Cuban Missile Crisis is one of the best known and most dangerous moments in human history, when the U.S. and U.S.S.R. came one step away from a nuclear war. However the two leaders, U.S. President John F. Kennedy and Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev, quickly recognized the devastating possibility of a nuclear war and used diplomacy to find a way out of this conflict. Eventually, the two leaders were able to cooperate and successfully avoid a nuclear crisis. Dobbs' analysis looks at how the politicians involved made strategic decisions to manage the conflict, preventing destruction and saving millions of lives. In conventional war, a leader can always recover from a bad strategic decision, but when nuclear weapons are involved the margin for error is very slim, which Kennedy understood when managing this crisis. According to Dobbs' account, t

Motor Sport and Brand Image

Executive Summary This thesis sets out to investigate the effect of participation in motorsports on the image of a company. The focus in this investigation lies on the effect for companies that participate in Formula 1. The research looks at three different items that can influence the image: brand fit, brand involvement and popularity of the sport. Another factor investigates the moderating effect that the influence of the image of the sport has on the three items under investigation. These issues where investigated using an online questionnaire. The results show that a correct brand fit and a high brand involvement are the issues that will ensure a positive change on the image of a company. In addition, companies need to choose a sport with a positive image in order to create an image transfer regime that is positive for both parties. Chapter 1 - Introduction The topic of this thesis focuses on participation in sports by a company. More in particularly, we take a close look at the p
