The classic idea of good versus evil has been an issue of debate since the beginning of mankind. A Good Man Is Hard to Find is a story that deals directly with that age-old conflict. Flannery O"Connor uses the phrase "a good man is hard to find" to help define her view of the decline of goodness in the old southern culture. She also uses this phrase to open up the debate to include Christianity and religions over all effect on the subject, as well as to probe into and question what really defines someone as being "a good man". Goodness and religion are two ideals that are all too often mixed ...

Several examples of how this was illustrated throughout the play is when Purdue lies to Bid about where she's staying and why she's there. Also, when Bid did what she thought was best by letting her ex-husband take her daughter away It seemed like the best option. Sydney Carton is the character that undergoes the most significant character development in A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. This development is key to understanding who he truly is, because that is something that is very difficult to see at the beginning of the novel. As he transforms through the story, you see that the person he appeared to be at the beginning of the novel was not who he truly was. My interpretation of Dickens characterization of Sydney Carton is that he is truly the better man. Not only did he make a promise to give his life in place of somebody that Lucie loved, he...

Although Bub narrates his own story, he does not put himself in a good light. He comes off as glib, shallow and immature. His snide comments depict someone unwilling to look beyond stereotypes for a deeper understanding of people or circumstances. This is most obvious in his thoughts about blind people. My idea of blindness came from the movies. In the movies, the blind moved slowly and never laughed. Sometimes they were led by seeing-eye dogs. A blind man in my house was not something I looked forward to. Carver illustrates Bub's rejection of intimacy in a variety of ways. First, he doesn't c...

Do you know the horror of "living" with no sensory stimulation other than torturous pain for days upon days, weeks upon weeks, months upon months and years upon years" (Larsen 77)? In "Put Me Out of My Misery, Shoot Me!" by Ron A. Larsen, there is a very clear message supporting the need for legalized euthanasia. African American author James Baldwin said, "An identity would seem to be arrived at by the way in which the person faces and uses his experience" (Brainy Quotes). The quest to define one's identity is part of the process of growing up. Teenagers and young adults often struggle to define themselves, questioning the religion in which they were raised, to the rules their parents tried to enforce. According to Baldwin, identity is a combination of how a person faces his/her challenges, what he/she learns from those challenges, and how he/she uses those lessons when encountering future challenges....

After that, it was a random choice after searching through prominent symphonies. Softly breathing, cries from the bedroom, and soft tears falling are all feelings that can be felt by humans around the world. The poem by Billy Collins, entitled Days illustrates the same of feelings. In the poem's entirety, life is not the only thing being portrayed, but instead it contrasts the beauty of life, with the short, but sweet, amount of time that is given for all humans. The poem addresses how our lives are drastically changed both emotionally and physically, by the loss of something or someone so close to our heart.
