If there is no struggle there is no progress Progression is almost impossible without a struggle in one way or another. The struggle usually involves sacrificing and continuing regardless of ups and downs. Prominent leaders are often times great examples of the correlation between struggling and progression. There are few successful leaders that did not struggle at some point on their ladder to greatness and success. On some occasions a person may have fame and fortune but did not have to struggle to have it. Sometimes a person can have these things through family inheritance or by twisted fat...

It is often called America's first great war novel, yet Stephen Crane's The Red Badge of Courage is more than just a tale about the civil war. Each person goes through his or her own personal struggle during the process of maturing. Some have this easy; others strive very hard to reach this goal of development. Although there may be constant struggles, there usually is one major event that creates somewhat of a bridge between childhood and adulthood. The Red Badge of Courage traces the steps and major events in the life of Henry Fleming, focusing mainly on his evolution into manhood. We meet H...

"In the higher world form of good appears last of all, and is seen only with effort." -Plato I think that this summarizes a part of life that at least I couldn't summarize in only one sentence. What Plato is describing is how if you work hard, put in lots of effort, you will see results. Goodness only comes when a person wants to see it, and doesn't take advantage of it. When a person works really hard toward something in particular, and is dedicated to it, they will get what they were working for. Plato realizes that this method of getting what you want is possible, depending on the size of t...

What is an ideal hero in epics? An ideal epic hero, a king or a warrior, in Beowulf is similar to that in the Odyssey and many other ancient tales. The whole kingdom will know him. He is always brave and larger-than-life strong. For example, in his battle with the monster Grendel, Beowulf used "bare hands", not some magic sword or an army of football players. The hero is also clever, he outsmarts the enemy with his seemingly mortal capabilities. He likes to brag about himself and his powers a lot, showing his self-esteem and pride. For instance, Beowulf wants the world to know about his majest...
