What Were The Main Causes Of The American Revolution

 

The thought was that the French might use the Indians to fight against the frontier, thereby helping the French to regain territory. Colonists were becoming bitter with resentment at the English for the way they saw the colonists, as being lazy. They also had an attitude of dominance over the colonies; this was unfortunate because the colonist were becoming more independent.
             Once the war had ended, the west was free for exploration, however, England tried to say it wasn't open, the colonists decided that the English opinion of this particular matter wasn't relevant. They ignored the request not to move west. The colonists continued westward, this was easy to accomplish, as the English troops were to thinly spaced across the boarder.
             An act was applied in 1764 called the Sugar Act put taxes on molasses, sugar and a couple of other products this caused protests in new England from the merchants and soon the duty in molasses was reduced. Another act called the Stamp Act was introduced which required all newspaper and legal documents to have a government stamp on it. Lawyers, editors, merchants and more were all in uproar. Protests broke out in New York and New England. All the merchants refused to import any kind of English goods until the Stamp Act was discontinued. 9 out of the 13 colonies sent out representatives to a Stamp Act congress, where they wished to discuss the act to see if it holds any value within the colonies. The court had decided that England had no right to enforce any kind of act without the acknowledgment and consent of the colonies which it was to be enforced upon.
             "The Principle of the thing," this became the main issue. The English refused the colonies to be represented formally at Westminster. Colonists insisted on taking care of their own financial affairs, this was because they were quite independent. Their ability was brought about by the way England stood back and never had too much to do with governing of the 13 colonies.
