World History

Three ways in which studying world history may be important to me is for knowledge, skills, and insight. Knowledge is very important for everyone because it allows us to gain a better understanding of everything that occurs around us and of life in general. History helps us to understand the past and to use this knowledge of the past as a stepping stone for the future. It also helps us to discuss current issues and gain better and broader insights on various issues that affect the world.
             2. The invention of the wheel was important because it made transportation much easier and quicker. The use of fire was important because it was used for the cooking of food. Ability to cooperate in mutually beneficial project was important because it allowed for people to trust each other. Domestication of animals was important because it led to farming.
             3. The use of metals is a measure of humanity's progress toward a more complex civilization because over a period of time, the use of metals allowed for the invention of buildings and eventually the creation of cities. This definitely leads to a more complex civilization because many advancements were made and cities became more and more populated. Metals also led to industry, which our civilization depends on.
             4. Egypt became a leading power of the ancient world because of the geographic area. The Nile River helped produce as many as four crops a year. Another reason was natural boundaries. Egypt was protected by invasion by natural barriers such as deserts, mountains, and seas.
             5. I agree that government arises to meet the needs of the people because as in reference to Ancient Egypt, when people needed dams and reservoirs to restrain the annual flooding, the government provided for that. However, I do agree again with the statement that once in power, government make take advantage of people because it took advantage of the ancient Egyptian people by forcing people to make great pyramids for the pharaohs.
