The Accident

We received the call on a cold December night while watching TV. My aunt was dead and I felt like it couldn't get any worse. Little did I know how wrong I was; that what was about to happen would change my life.
We left immediately to North Carolina so we could make it in time for my aunt's viewing. The night we arrived was the night that the viewing was to be held. We attended the viewing with sorrow filling our hearts. As I entered the funeral home I felt a wave of fear run through my body. You could immediately feel the anguish flowing through the air like wind on a fall afternoon. I remember it so vividly, the cries, the screams of sadness, the warm tears running down my face. It felt like an eternity of standing in front of my aunt's dead body, but it was over all too soon.
As my uncle and I headed home in his car we were just catching up with each other and listening to oldies. As my uncle looked down to change the radio station I looked up and felt the impact. I felt my body fly into the air up from my seat and my glasses flew off. My head hit the roof and my uncle quickly pulled into the median. Some idiot had just hit my side of the car as he was pulling out onto Main Street. I had experienced my first car accident on one of the worse nights of my life.
As my uncle tried to get out of the car without realizing that he had his seatbelt on I said "Hey stop stepping on my glasses", which were now on the floor under him. He finally managed to unbuckle his seatbelt and get out of the car. I climbed out after him since I couldn't use my door. After calling the police department we waited for a while just looking at the damage. The smell of antifreeze slowly crawled up my nose as I looked at the wrecked car. I then started praying, for I knew that this was a miracle. I didn't have my seatbelt on and knew that I deserved to fly out the windshield, nor was there airbags in the car to protect us.
