The Coliseum

The Coliseum was built over 2000 years ago in Rome. It is one of the largest stadiums in the world till this day; people say it is built before its time. Supposedly if the Coliseum falls Rome will fall and then the world will fall. It was originally built for gladiatorial games; the Romans found it entertaining to see gladiators die. At first the Coliseum was the something Theater named after the something family, it was later named the Coliseum after Calluses. The first part of the Coliseum was built in the year 8b.c., the Amp a Theater was built in 70a.d., and there were 80 entries to the theater. To build the Coliseum they used sturdy blocks to make it temporary, they used pulley to pull up the heavy blocks. The builders did not use any electronically devices to help them build it was held together by only gravity and good design. The design let them use the lower levels to store dangerous animals. It also had a retractable roof witch only covered 2/3 of the arena, however till this day it is still not known how it worked. In the original Coliseum admissions were free however you still had to sit according to social class; on the first tare the rich sat, the middle class sat on the second tare, third tare and the slaves and women, all the seats were made of marble and were stolen from other places to put in the Coliseum. The lotus Magnus was a smaller arena located right next to the Coliseum witch is where the gladiators lived and practiced. The gladiators only fought about twice a year so that they would keep the number of gladiators up because if ½ of the gladiators died each time then there would eventually be no more gladiators. After 217a.d. part of it was destroyed and it took 20yrs to rebuild witch is twice the time it took to build it in the first place. The glory days were over by the late 4th century. It became a world symbol after the 18th century. The Coliseum has survived a lot of disasters in its time it survived fires, earthquakes, neglect, and vegetation, there is said to be over 420 species of plants just in that building alone.
