When a football player gets yelled at by their coach, they have to remain calm and control their emotions because any negative reaction given to the coach can result in a serious consequence by the coach. Whereas off the field, if there was a verbal altercation, specifically with a female, they try to verbally intimate the female because mentally they know that they are stronger than the woman and that the only person that can raise their voice to the NFL player is their coach and not anyone else. People who defend NFL players involved in domestic disputes would also argue that the natural emotional growth of the NFL players is destroyed by the coaches. Even though they are grown men playing a professional sport and should be acting professionally in doing so, some may say domestic violence is just and will back the player up. .
The law of the United States of America protects women's rights. How could the NFL policy tolerate domestic violence? In fact, the U.S. Congress passed two main laws related to violence against women. One of laws passed, the Violence Against Women Act, keeps victims of domestic violence safe by requiring that the victim receives a protection order that is enforced by the United States. This law has also increased rates of conviction, and the sentencing of offenders by helping communities develop dedicated law enforcement and prosecution units (Fahmy). Another law the United States' Congress passed is the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act. The Family Violence Prevention and Services Act is federally funded directly to domestic violence shelters, programs, and homes. Furthermore, the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services includes the Community Checklist initiative to make sure each community has domestic violence programs (Fahmy). If the NFL policy followed the U.S law, there would be a stronger punishment.
The NFL's high tolerance of domestic violence has negatively effected the NFL in such a way that they have been losing fans, thus resulting in a huge pounding to the revenue and business of the league.
