The Turkish Education System

 

The Ministry of National Education has made some arrangements for decreasing the rate of schooling in pre-school education. According to statistics, the rate of the schooling in pre-schools showed 3 increment in 2006-2007. Because of the raising the rate of women employees, and the importance of education, the pre-schools has become more and more vital for the learners.
             2. Primary School in Turkey:.
             Basic education start at the age of 6 and ends at the age of 14. It is divided two stage: Primary Education and Lower Secondary Education. Basic Education is compulsory for every citizen in the country and it is provided free by the government. The most important aim of the primary school is; to teach the learners how to read and write, develop their cognitive and physical improvement according to national moral sentiment, prepare them life and a higher level of education stage by raising them with their interests and skills. .
             In the first grade of the primary school, the main aim is to teach the children how to read and write. Besides, they learn basic mathematical operations such as addition, multiplication, subtraction and division. In the lesson of Knowledge of Life, the learn their bodies, months, days and week. They also learn hygiene and how to keep clean themselves in this lesson. In the first grade, students also take, Physical Exercises, Music and Art lessons.
             In the second year, they have the same courses with the first year and they add new information that they learnt before, additionally; they start to learn English as a foreign language. It is vocabulary centered education and they learn greeting, counting numbers, colors, family members and some basic verbs and adjectives. In the third grade, there is only one new subject for the learners: Sciences. And this is the last year for the Knowledge of Life subject. In the fourth year-also the last year of primary school-, we can see that, Social Sciences and Turkish Republic history and the leader of Turks, Ataturk's Principles and Reforms subject are taught.
