The Causes and Effects of Bullying

Bullying is the use of force or threat to abuse, intimidate or aggressively dominate others. Presently the rate of bullying is increasing. This is highly caused by problems at home, past experiences, anger issues or even jealousy. Bullying negatively affects children; mentally, physically, and socially. Therefore, with that being said, bullying must stop in order for everyone to feel safe among their environment.
First, the mental health of a victim of bullying is affected in many ways. A bullied person, after constantly being bullied, eventually develops paranoia or anxiety. The individual will not feel at rest in his or her own mind. This is one of the effects of the "fight or flight mode". The person being bullied wont be in their normal state. Instead, adrenaline in their body is released and causes this paranoia. They feel like danger is always near, they may shake and always be scared. Therefore, if the individual constantly feels paranoid and worried, this individual becomes restless and always scared. With this comes depression. They may have prevalent suicidal thoughts because they may actually feel insane. The individual may also feel that their present purpose of life is just to be bullied, threatened or harmed. If the individual is a student, then he or she will show a significant decline in his or her academic performance. In some cases, if the individual was an "A" student or an intelligent student in the past, then by being bullied, that student may later falls back with their academic capacity and learning. However, people who have been bullied have engaged in frequent crying as a way of letting out inner pain, despair and anger caused from the impossibility to prevent or avoid being bullied.
Secondly, bullying can negatively affect the victim physically. The person being bullied may have a loss of appetite. He/she may have a reduced desire to eat, affecting him/her physically.
