The Importance of Being Authentic

In the beginning she was really accepting toward the way that she looked, she was always hiding it from her daughter and was always worried about what her daughter thought about it. Even other people she didn't even know would ask, "What's a matter with your eye?" (Walker). The fact that random people would ask her about her eye too didn't help her confidence because it was already extremely low. But, at her lowest point in confidence her appearance her daughter at two years old said, "Mommy where did you get that world in your eye?"(Walker). After she had asked that one question she realized that she shouldn't let her flaws define her. This is important when striving to be authentic because accepting the way you look helps you be able to not worry about what you look and not care what others thing of you gaining a sense of who you are and helping you be well, you.
             Zora Neal Huston is an example of a person who worked hard to strive for greatness, "no one on this earth had a greater chance for glory" (Huston).
