He still would have accomplished great things even if he had not used anabolic steroids but now he is not even mentioned because of it. It's not just him though, many people have used anabolic steroids and were not allowed into the hall of fame because of it. It is proven that anabolic steroids enhance performance, which there should not be a limit on. Everyone should have the choice to achieve their full potential since billions of dollars go to these sports annually. People want to see the greatest of the great, so the choice to use all available forces should at least be the players choice and not limited by what people who don't even play and only write the rules say. One of the basic human rights is that every person has the right to do what they please with themselves within limits. We have the right to choose what we eat, whether or not to treat ourselves with medical care, and involve ourselves in high risk activities that could potentially lead to death (skydiving, car racing, scuba diving) so should we not be able to take a few pills or inject ourselves with something of pharmaceutical grade to change our body the way we like? "The number of deaths from playing professional football and college football are 50 to 100 times higher than even the wild exaggerations about steroids. More people have died playing baseball than have died of steroid use." (Katz, Jeffrey). There are minimal risks associated with taking anabolic steroids compared to many other things people have the choice to do like drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes. Having a poor diet can actually have more negative risks than abusing anabolic steroids since you can die very easily from malnutrition and heart disease. Making anabolic steroids illegal and not allowing them to be safely used and administered by a doctor for recreational use is very antiquated. With the way society is today with its acceptance and fast paced changes it is very surprising that something used for medical benefits is illegal.
