This makes the ad more appealing by giving people the choice on how to make a difference rather than giving them a yes no choice. Next to the words there is lines resembling a ruler showing the rise in water levels. At first glance a viewer might overlook this detail although it is a big piece of this ad. Global warming is essentially water levels rising due to climate change, which then causes problems. By having he ruler placed next to the words the viewer sees the not only the message about sea levels from the words but also gets a visual representation from the ruler. Next to the ruler is a logo for the Surfrider Foundation. The foundation logo symbolizes the trustworthiness of the ad. .
This add uses the appeals of mainly Ethos and Pathos. Pathos is used to create emotional reactions to a theme and in this case a sense of urgency is presented through the grenade. The puddle created by the melting grenade is making people aware of the coming problems that are slowly starting to happen. By showing that the puddle is already starting to form it makes people see that the dangers of global warming aren't a thing of the future but a thing of the present. Through Pathos people should feel danger through the grenade and be influenced to change the way the live. People will either have a reality check about Global Warming or will be afraid of the consequences meaning they will want to change something. The more afraid people are, the more they will understand what the problem is. Along with emotion Pathos plays off of empathy. Through the ad the illustrator uses depressing colors to make the viewer feel bad and then when they read the words they realize that global warming can be fixed. The grenade is then thought about and the viewer realizes that the grenade is made of ice signifying the foreboding danger of global warming. The ad also might inspire people to see that although Global warming is already bad, there is still time and ways to change the path it is taking.
