Of Mice and Men

In the book, Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, George and Lennie are two friends trying to survive and make a dream come true. George and Lennie's friendship is one of a kind. No matter what happens, they are always there for each other. They are the kind that always sticks by each other and although George acts mean towards Lennie, nothing changes the fact that George still cares about him, and vice versa. George and Lennie's relationship proves no matter how bad someone treats you, you never know if they actually care about you deep inside. When George kills Lennie, it is not out of hatred, but out of love. He did not want a stranger to kill Lennie for what he did, so he must do it himself. He really does care about Lennie, and does what he has to do. Sometimes we have to do things we do not like, even if it means losing something we care for.
At times, there can be people who truly care about you, even if they treat you bad. George is always mean to Lennie, no matter what he does. Still, he takes care of him through thick and thin, and no matter what, always has Lennie's back. With every situation they encounter, George tries to make everything better and convinces Lennie that it will always be okay, and there is nothing that can ruin their friendship or dreams. When Curley first went into the barn and meets George and Lennie, George starts worrying. George is "scared. [Lennie] gonna have trouble with that Curley guy." (# 29) With that predicament, George sticks by Lennie's side, and makes sure he is all right. Besides that, George also reassures Lennie that he "ain't mad. [George] never been mad, an" ain't now. That's a thing [George] want [Lennie] to know." (# 106) This reveals how George really feels about him. Whatever mistake Lennie makes, George is never mad at him. Lennie did nothing wrong to George; he is only a friend that means no harm whatsoever. It just does not matter what he does in the past.
