Academic Dishonesty

Many students are not aware of academic dishonesty. Firstly, academic dishonesty refers to forms of cheating and plagiarism. In this research paper I am going to describe why students cheat, describe how extensive the problem is, how can it be prevented, and legal issues concerning Academic dishonesty. To begin with, academic dishonesty refers to forms of cheating and plagiarism which results in students giving or receiving unauthorized assistance in an academic exercise or receiving credit for work which is not their own. .
Also, it is a very prevalent question about the reasons students decide to cheat. Although it is impossible to precisely decide what causes students to cheat there are some factors that can be examined. Some reasons are as follows, students are unclear about what they believe what they learn is not relevant to their future career goals, and the risks associated with cheating are minimal ( Nuss, Pavela,4 ). .
Furthermore, the problem of plagiarism is very extensive. Now days almost all educational institutions face the problem of academic dishonesty. In a study conducted in 1979 8.8% students reported that they have to cheat in order to get good grades. One of the problem in documenting academic dishonesty is complicated by the fact that there is not a common definition for academic dishonesty. Copying few sentences without foot noting in the paper, working on homework with other students when it is not allowed, paying someone to write a paper and submitting it as ones own work are few examples which shows the extensiveness of academic dishonesty ( Nuss , Pavela, 3). .
In addition, it is thought that there are no solutions to academic dishonesty this is not true. There are many ways to prevent the problem of academic dishonesty. Firstly, there are many types of cheating for example, obtaining a copy of the test to prevent this test can be secured in a safe place by instructor from formation to administration and instructors should not give repetitions of exams which may be given in previous semesters.
