Globalization

Globalization could be considered as the denationalization of markets, politics, and legal systems. Globalization is the movement of goods, capital, ideas, and people across geopolitical boundaries today and in the past. Globalization can be said to give people more individual freedom and free them from the "tyranny of geography." (Nelson, 2004) Globalization could allow people to move freely among countries around the world, and allows people to communicate freely worldwide. Communication and culture has been changed as a result of globalization. Corporations as well as the economy as a whole have changed also because of globalization. The shape of politics itself has changed because of the affects of globalization. The negative aspects of globalization outweigh all the positive and innovative ideas of this new phenomenon. The affects of globalization will be argued in this essay.
The way globalization has been changing the face of the world has lead to some major advantages and disadvantages in the way people communicate. The way people live their lives and their culture has also changed because of globalization. Global media now ties the world together, and with an increased flow of communications allows vital information to be shared between individuals and corporations around the world. For example a three-minute phone call from New York to London cost two hundred and forty-five dollars in 1930. In 1990, the same phone call only cost three dollars. Therefore, globalization allows communication to be cheaper. With the Internet and other state-of-the-art telecommunications representatives in India can answer questions that people in the United States have. The major disadvantage of this free communication is the threat that a handful of corporations will limit cultural expression by only broadcasting, televising, and printing what they want. Cultural advantages to globalization are the reduction of cultural barriers, and the idea of the "global village" effect.
