Nonverbal Communication

 

            
             Nonverbal communication is the way we communicate without using words. Its our facial expressions, body postures, eye contacts and touch. We can express much without using words. If a person does not talk to you on purpose and ignores you; that is communicating nonverbally that he or she is angry at you. If we do not notice it, we nonverbally communicate everyday. Nonverbal communication includes both bodily motions and sounds of voice that are used intentionally with regularity by a social community (Verderber 103). Nonverbal communication plays an important role in my interpersonal communcaition with my family and friends. .
             Everyday we use our body to communcate nonverbally. We do it with our eyes, hands, body posture and so on. Eye contact is one way we use our eyes to commincate nonverbally. Eye contact is very important when two people are conversing. It displays that you are listening and paying attention. Eye contact involves looking directly at the person or people with whom we are communcation. In addition to meeting psychogical needs, we monitor the effect of our communication through eye contact (Verderber 105). I need someone to look into my eyes in order to feel that they are paying attention. Gestures are another form. Gestures are the movements of hands , arms, and fingers that we use to emphasize ( Verderber 106). Pointing fingers, slamming your fist on the table, and jumping for joy are forms of gestures. They can express feelings and emotions. When someone hits their fist on a table they might be angry at something or someone. They are expressing anger. .
