             The Great Depression of 1929 along with the "Dust Bowl" caused the .
             citizens of the United States to search for a helping hand, which came in the .
             form of communism. Vladimir Ilich Lenin is said to be the father of .
             communism, because although he was not the first to think of it, he was the .
             first to put it into action instead of words. Lenin split a military faction off .
             of the Marxist Party in the Soviet Union. He continued to led the .
             revolutions in Russia to bring the country to a communist government. The .
             communist party in America was founded in 1919 (Communism) . The .
             communist party in America experienced a large growth followed by a large .
             decay, but the effects the party had still remain.
             America experienced turmoil in the 1930's with the Great Depression. .
             The economy was collapsing, and people assumed the cause of all this was .
             capitalism. "On paper", true communism is a completely perfect .
             government economically. Many White Americans, fearing capitalism to .
             collapse at any moment, turned to communism. Black Americans also saw .
             communism as a good idea because in a communist society, everyone is .
             treated and thought of as equals.(Gleick 273) Many of the farmers .
             experiencing the aftermath of the "Dust Bowl", were also driven to urban .
             communities in search of new jobs, and some to a new form of government. .
             Although starting numbers were small, the communist party soon grew to .
             100,000 in the early 1930's.(Communism) Although a large number of .
             people were turning to communism, a larger number were opposing it, and .
             opposing people who support it.
             The current president of the United States was Dwight Eisenhower. He .
             strongly opposed communism, and strongly fought to put a stop to .
             it.(Museum of Communism) Eisenhower put lots of money and effort into .
             containing communism to Asia and Europe. Communism spread much .
             more quickly in Europe than in America, but the American faction of .
             communism was still rapidly growing.
