There are women all over the United States that are unable to have children. Reasons such as infertility, bad ovaries, or a previous disease that affected their uterus can make it impossible for a woman to bear children. It is true that some of those women may be thankful that they can't have children. But then again, there are many that would like the chance to become a parent. If this is the case, adoption is one of the few ways they can have children of their own. They could have been put into the homes of people that wanted them, and would have cared for them if the biological mother could not have. My first grade teacher, Mrs. Nemchick was unable to have children, and because of this she turned to adoption. She has adopted two girls from Korea in the last ten years, and loves her children as if she gave birth to them. Those two girls have made her life complete. Adoption agencies have changed a lot over the years. They used to be very secretive so the birth parents wouldn't know much about the adopting parents, and visa-versa. Now the adoptive parents are allowed to meet the biological parents, or keep it unknown. The options have gotten to be more open and have many more possibilities according to the situation of each individual family. The birth parents even have the option of meeting the adoptive parents if they wish, and keep in touch with their child throughout the years if that is what they find appropriate. This makes the idea of adoption much less scary and can make it much easier for both the biological and adoptive parents to go ahead with that decision.
