When families live together, they become accustomed to each others' habits. Sometimes they just don't realize when one member of the family is really having a serious problem. In my family, my parents (especially my father) have never really taken me seriously, when I deal with a health related problem. Maybe it's because as a family we have never experienced any serious illnesses or health related problems. But it all changed.
It was 2 am, April 24th of 2001, when I started to experience the most unbearable pain in my life; it was on the right side of the abdomen. The pain was so extreme I wasn't sure if I was going to make it through the night. Taking three pain relievers didn't have an effect on the pain at all. When those pills didn't help, I wasn't sure what would. I couldn't stand still in one spot: when I did, I thought I was going to die. To relieve the pain, I ran like an idiot from one side of the room to the other. After a 3 hour running marathon in my house, I decided that the situation was getting very serious and I should wake my parents up to let them know what the problem was. After I told my father that I was experiencing a lot of pain, he decided to ignore the problem. His solution was to tell me to take a couple more pills, and to try to lie on the bed. My response was that I couldn't sit still in one spot because the pain was tremendous: the only relief I had was running around the house. By then I was pretty much exhausted from jogging around the house, and didn't feel like jogging anymore. About an hour later, while I was lying on the living room floor, I saw my father enter the living room. And I heard him say, "Let's go to the hospital." Those words were music to my ears. .
I quickly got dressed. Although in tremendous pain I was able to make it to my father's car. We went to Bellevue Hospital. When I got there, I was greeted by a nurse asking me how I was feeling. Like she didn't already see what kind of condition I was in.
