At Hogwarts, Harry meets his teachers, and becomes best friends with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The three of them accidentally find out that the potions master, Severus Snape, seems to be up to something, they believe he is going to try to steal something that is guarded by a three-headed dog. Since nobody would believe some first years to have found out such important things that even would ever think that a Hogwart's teacher would do such a thing, they take it on themselves to find out what Snape is up to. Their quest for the truth leads across many obstacles, from keeping up the everyday school life, a bewitched Quidditch match (Quidditch is a popular wizard sport), Fluffy, the three-headed monster dog and quite a few tasks one has to overcome to get to the guarded object, which is ends up being the sorcerer's stone.
The setting of the both the novel and the film both take place somewhere right outside of London. Well that is in the beginning, while Harry lives with his Evil aunt Petunia and uncle Vernon. They also both take place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. That is where most of the story is told. Hogwarts is a school that can only be seen by witches and wizards. It is in a field that non-witches and non-wizards can see, except for the fact that when they look at it, alls they see is a field or mountains. In the film and novel, the time setting is both set in the late 1990s. The characters are also the same. There is Harry Potter, who is the boy who did not know he was a famous wizard. Ron Weasly, Hermione Granger, and Hagrid (the half giant) who become Harry's best friends. Even though Harry was very popular and famous he also had his share of enemies. There were three boys named Malfoy, Crabe, and Goyle. They hated Harry with a passion. They would try to do everything in their power to defeat Harry. Even if it was in classes to know more answers, or if it was on the quidditch field.
