The Battle Of The Sexes

Have you ever heard someone state that something is specifically for only one of the genders? Well, this is part of the eternal battle of the sexes! Since the beginning of times women and men have been seen as completely different humans that are born to do specific things. This opposition is even found in literary works and in TV shows and movies. One example of a literary work that shows this battle is "Rip Van Winkle" by Washington Irving. In this story, the wife is left with all the house work, while the husband is very lazy and the wife is always nagging at him. Although the battle of the sexes has many branches, three main points of it are the specific work that is assigned to each, what the physical appearance of each gender should be, and the "proper" conduct each sex should practice.
First of all, the battle of the sexes is existent because of the specific tasks that are assigned to each sex. What I mean by this is the fact that it is not viewed as "proper" for a woman to be a firefighter or a construction worker, for example, and for a man to be a beautician or a clothes designer. Men and women who have those jobs are considered homosexuals often! Also, the appropriate way of living is that when two people are married, the man must work and bring the money home while the woman does all the housework and raises the children. This leaves the woman with all the cleaning, cooking, and washing in the house while the man just lazily comes home to request a clean house, delicious food, and clean clothes! Also, it is believed that the man is the one that should manage all the money for the family. Fortunately, times are changing and it is becoming more accepted to break those "rules" and it isn't like in the story "Rip Van Winkle" that the wife must deal with all the house work while her husband is very lazy!.
Furthermore, the battle of the sexes is portrayed when what the physical appearance of each gender should be is discussed.
