In order to determine what is the most efficient way for me to learn and retain information, I had to first determine which learning style would work best for me. Of the several different learning techniques that individuals are able to benefit from, I found that my primary learning style is the Audio/Visual Learning Style. According to the article (" Diablo Valley College survey," 2000) the audio/verbal learning style states, " you learn best when information is presented auditory in a oral language format." The audio/visual learning style has allowed me several opportunities for growth, and at the same time, there are several areas for improvement.
The auditory/verbal learning style works for me for several reasons. First of all, working in-group settings enables me to ask my peers or educators for clarification, which allows me to understand different viewpoints. This learning style also works for me because it allows me to grasp information easier when it is spoken out loud. For example, when I am studying by myself, I am able to talk out loud which helps me retain the information that I have just read. .
The auditory/verbal learning style has not only helped me with my undergraduate studies, but it has helped me in my professional life as well. For example, whenever I am in group meetings or learning new tasks, I am able to apply this learning style to my professional life which allows me seek clarification about the company in which I am employed, or if I don't fully understand any material that I may have to present in a large group setting. .
On the other hand, even though the auditory/verbal learning style is the primary learning style that I utilize, I believe that there are several areas of improvement that will allow me to grow with my future endeavors. By blending in the different learning styles, these techniques may help me improve my overall ability to learn and retain information.
