Antigone

A man of high rank and stature, consistent in action, but he must also have a flaw in character that enables him to commit an imprudent act. This depiction can completely characterize Kreon, king of Thebes, from the film Antigone. This film is about a woman named Antigone who wishes to give her brother, Polynices, a proper burial after Kreon, her uncle, ordered that he was not to be touched. As a result, Antigone went against his authority and buried her brother and caused much chaos to everyone, but in particular was Kreon. This all eventually leads to the destruction of Kreon, where he suffers greatly for a decision he has made. It can be determined from all of this that Kreon can be considered a tragic hero because of his rise to being king of Thebes, then he gave wholeheartedly to reign and be king, and finally because of a particular action ,Kreon is led to his downfall.
Kreon came to be king when his brother-in-law, Oedipus, had been destroyed by a tragic death and overtaking his role as king. In the beginning of the film, the camera shots of Kreon are always subjective and looking up at him. This helps to reveal Kreons dictatorship and high rank. Such scene as the chorus is standing on the staircase leading up to the door, in which Kreon enters with much light, indicating his importance to the scene. As Kreon enters the room he comes down the staircase as if he were descending to the people of the city. Another point that shows Kreons rise to be king is how he uses the desk in the middle of the room to show how he separates himself from everyone and that he needs to have the assurance that he is above all. The last point to show Kreons rise to king is how the film makes it important to show the huge banners of Kreon, to show that he is of some great importance.
Although it may seem Kreon has the flaw of being hubris, he does give everything he has to be a respectable king.
