Shackleton

They became constipated, and when they did actually have to release feces they had no toilet paper and had to use ice. After months of being at "Patience Camp" the crew noticed a swell in the ice, soon they had to mount their boats and stay away from the camp. They set off on there three boats Wills, Docker, and the Caird. They reached The Elephant Island and they realized that staying on the island would not lead to there survival or rescue. So Shackleton put together a five man crew and sailed out to the South Georgia Island to get help. Shackleton and his five-man crew faced overcast skies, heaving seas, towering waves, gale-force winds, and a hurricane which made it almost impossible to keep the boat upright. Also if there navigation was off by even a half a degree they could miss the South Georgia Island completely. He and his crew hit Elephant Island, but they were on the wrong side, and the boat was damaged to bad to sail any further. The crew had to march across the uncharted island to the nearest whaling station. After three days of climbing and walking over treacherous land they encountered civilization for the first time since the beginning of their voyage. Then Shackleton set out in a borrowed ship to save the twenty two men on Elephant Island, but ice blocked his path again and again. Meanwhile, the men on Elephant Island assumed that the rest of the crew was dead. Finally Shackleton was able to reach Elephant Island, and all of the crew that was left behind remained alive. .

Shackleton can be considered one of the greatest leaders in history. He can be considered not just as a leader. Shackleton distinguished himself as a leader among the twenty-six men who were in his crew on the expedition. Shackleton showed tremendous leadership by earning the respect of these men by putting his men's well-being, both mental and physical, above all else.
