However, after watching the video that was shown in class over the Slave Trade and discussing it I learned that other Africans also captured other Africans and sold them to the Europeans and some used them as their slaves which I never knew about. Though the Europeans used Africans as slaves because they knew how to farm land and also were very hard workers. Africans were also immune to tropical diseases, which lead to healthier children and for them to live longer. So Europeans would get more people, and there were vast numbers. Plus both men and women knew how to work on the land. In the Atlantic Slave Trade Europeans traveled this triangular journey by boat and stored thousands of Africans in bondage including men, women, and children. When thinking of the Middle Passage it makes me angry and sick to hear how Africans were treated during the Middle Passage. The Middle Passage was the second, or middle, leg of the triangular voyage between Europe, Africa, and the Americas. During this time hundreds of slaves were kept below deck where it was hot, crowded, and inhumane conditions. All slaves were chained up by hand and foot with no clothes on at all or partially clothed. There was hardly any room at all for individuals. The most space given was four to six feet a slave, which caused slaves to over crowd, and practically be one on top of the other. The deck was dark and probably unbearable to smell the awful conditions. Few were fed and the ones that were, were given a handful of junk, that caused others to grab and fight for just a taste. The Middle Passage caused many slaves to become ill and hard to survive. Many slaves died and did not make the journey. Others could not bear the life they were going to live and the way they were being treated. They were whipped and beaten to near death, and in some cases, they were put to death. Some were tied to big rocks and thrown overboard left to drown.
