Nothing to Live for

There is no way to put a price on the help that adults provide when they voluntarily, caringly share their time with young people" (Haffen and Frandsen 62). .
All children really need is time. Time to talk to their parents, time to laugh with their parents, even time to just sit and watch television with their parents. Teens feel unwanted and uncared for when all parents do is work. Being a parent for an hour is ten million times more fulfilling than working for 40 hours. This is one of the most common reasons that youths think it is easier to just die than live.
Another reason that children feel unloved is if their parents separate or divorce. This is another hard thing for a child to comprehend since the child does not see his or her parents together anymore. A child may tend to feel hurt and confused as if they might have ruined Mommy and Daddy's relationship. A bunch of questions race through a child's head when his or her parents divorce. The most typical question is "Was it my fault?".
A book called A Time to Listen - Preventing Youth Suicide, states "Those who attempt suicide tend to come from a home that has been disrupted by divorce" (Hermes 121). Children do not realize, because they are so young, that their parents separating or divorcing had nothing to do with them. On occasion, parents will divorce or separate because one of the spouses was abusing the child mentally or physically, but because it was the spouse's fault, not the child's. This is something parents tend to forget to tell their children if a divorce does happen. However, parents need to make it a priority to let their children know it was not their fault.
Another cause for youth suicide also takes place inside the family home. This cause is alcohol, which does, in fact, affect the whole family not just the child. However, more than others, alcoholism inside the family circle does affect the child more.
