Country Overview - France


            When you think of France, the first things you usually think of are the Eiffel Tower, Baguettes, Wine, Cheese, Croissants, and more. All these things are a big part of France, but through this project I learned things about France that I never knew before. I have been to France before, but decided to pick this project because even though I may have visited the country, I never actually learned about the country and immersed myself in their culture. The first theme of Geography is location. The relative location of France is that it is located in West Europe.   It borders the Bay of Biscay and the English Channel between Belgium and Spain, southeast of the United Kingdom. It borders the Mediterranean Sea, between Italy and Spain. It's absolute location is 46° N, 2° E.
             The next theme of Geography is place. France's physical features include the Seine River, which is an important commercial waterway in the Paris Basin in the north of France and many different regions of mountains, plains, and coasts. France's major human feature is the Eiffel Tower, which was built by Gustav Effile in 1887. Another theme of Geography is Region. France is in a formal region of Europe. Another region would be the northern hemisphere. France is divided into 22 administrative regions. Each region has its own traditions, cultures, and cuisines. The climate region of France is mostly marine. .
             The next theme of Geography is Human-Environmental Interaction. How do the people relate to the physical world? The people of France have adapted to the climate of their country by wearing appropriate clothes during their rainy, cold winters. Not just the people but also the economy relies majorly on agriculture and food products such as grapes to make the famous wines and cows to make all the cheese. France is known for these products worldwide and the people rely on the soil to continue being fertile, so that they can continue producing the crops.
