Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world, Nelson Mandela; A popular quote used by individuals who proclaim that all youths should be given the opportunity to an education to become part of an outstanding future generation. Belize, a nation that aspires to escalate from being a third world country has not yet reached its peak of improvement to higher levels of quality education, especially in the primary and secondary institutions. Quality education is Belizes missing piece in the puzzle to begin its journey away from its present rank. It seems that the Ministry of Education hasnt done enough to empower Belizes engine to move forward. This has been one of the reasons why many students who have an associates degree do not qualify to work or study in a foreign country. The level of education in Belize is so low that universities like Harvard and Oxford would not even consider an applicant with an associates degree from Belize. As young Belizean adults, we lack the opportunities to become pillars of our nation due to our countrys poor educational standards. Our leaders vision has been blocked by the erroneous phrase, Quantity rather than quality which has led to catastrophic situations in schools where the number of qualified teachers is very low and where malnutrition has been destroying many children. A student who has the necessary nutrients in his/her body, along with a qualified teacher that is passionate in what he/she does, will definitely be one of the individuals that will make a historical difference in Belize. Remember! A nations hope lies in the proper education of its youths.
George Bernard Shawn said, My schooling not only failed to teach me what it professed to be teaching, but prevented me from being educated to an extent which infuriated me when I think of all I might have learned at home by myself. It is impossible that a single teacher involves forty to forty-five (40-45) students in a productive teaching session to the extend where everyone will acquire the necessary information to understand the topic.
