Jefferson's Government Philosophy

A nation cannot be successful without a government. All functions of a nation are based on the actions taken by that government. There are several different views on the way a government should be run or what type should be established. The ruling authority put in place by the citizens should rule for the citizens. Economic theory, which is also a delicate topic, is essential to a nation's prosperity. An economy based on agriculture is most suitable for a country like the United States of America. Also tying into economics is the establishment of a national bank. In no way does congress possess the power to establish a bank for the people.
As stated before, a government is critical for a nation to function. One that makes decisions with the people in mind is most prosperous. After all, the people give the power to the government therefore it is the government's duty to make sure the rights of the people are protected. These rights, as John Locke stated, are "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness". Once a government fails to work for the people then it is their right to overthrow this government and establish one that is more suitable to their needs. Much of the power should be given to the states. They are fit to make decisions for the people rather than a national government. A state knows the people's needs more than that of the nation. If a national government is put in a position where they make most of the decisions there is no way to make everyone happy. A state government can make decisions they know will be fit for the people of that state. Although it is agreed that a national government is needed, they shouldn't be given the majority of the power. That is when they become greedy and corrupt. .
The United States in particular would be most fit with an agriculturally based economy. Everyone has seen how an industrial economy hurt the British. The people must learn from their ancestor's mistakes and establish an economy that is certain to guarantee prosperity for the people.
