I can guarantee that when a customer decides to fill out one of our surveys, they will put us down as unprepared and that we have poor service. This will cause our customer service rate to decrease immensely. .
If we do not try to solve this tardiness problem then our customer service rate will continue to drop. There were numerous times where I would be working in the fitting room and take up the other employee's job who is constantly late. The problem with that is that I cannot carry out two jobs simultaneously. My primary shift is in the fitting room, so that is what I focus more on. That meant that there would be no one in the scheduled department where the late employee would be. This caused loyal customers to get upset and leave because they could not find anyone to help them with the necessary services such as answering their questions. When multiple customers start to leave like this, we will realize that we will not be making any profit.
Not only will our customers not come back to the store, but employees will start finding new jobs. For instance, I have had many co-workers come up to me and tell me they were going to start looking for a new job because working more than just their own shift and not getting paid for it becomes stressful. Working on Fridays and Saturdays are already stressful days because it is the weekend and everyone is shopping. Unfortunately, an employee's scheduled area usually gets trashed from the crowds of people frantically looking through clothes for their sizes. Then to have to take upon someone else's shift because they have not arrived yet makes them extremely irritated. However, by taking the necessary steps, employees will not have the urge to look for a new job. The best way to limit employee tardiness is using four necessary steps: review current policies and procedures on tardiness, communicate behaviors/actions violating rules, establish stronger consequences, and create a rewards program.
