The Science and Issues of Cloning


Cloning could be used to help find medicine, we use mice to help us see if our medicine we are making works. Also cloning is being looked at to create stem cells, which could be used for medical patient like growing organs. Even try and develop treatments for diseases. Another use for cloning is if you have a family cat that was so close and dear to the family you could clone the cat and but it might not be the exact same one as the one that passed away. Even cloning of live stock is one of the uses.
             Governmental Perspective .
             The government's views on cloning is different from what it used to be. President Obama says the government will not back cloning because it is viewed as morally wrong. Former President, George W. Bush was the first to authorize any support for stem cell research. Scientist can apply for the government's money for their research and further studies just like it would before for any other studies. United States is in agreement with the Food and Drug Administration about cloning of animals that produce our food." The International Embryo Transfer Society has issued a position statement in favor of animal cloning research. Most scientific organizations have focused their position statements regarding human cloning, presuming already their support for animal cloning.The Humane Society of the United States has issued a press release condemning the cloning of cats or other pets"("Cloning Laws"). The government feels safer doing cloning on animals instead of humans. Many states our banning cloning such as Arizona, Rhode Island, Michigan and many others. There are laws that do not allow states to do research on cloning if you are caught doing research of cloning you may be fined or do some jail time.
