She was uncivilized and lacked of proper language and manner befitting someone who was stereotyped as lower class. On the contrary, Professor Higgins excelled in phonetics, the ability to speak different dialects and ways of speaking. He was a well-educated and arrogant man who loved to brag his achievements and ridiculed other people's intellectual abilities. To fulfill a bet, Higgins did pick up Eliza 'from the gutter' and instructed her in proper English etiquette and speech. .
Much like Henry Higgins took Eliza Doolittle on as a project, in the movie The Makeover, Hannah Higgins also took Elliot Doolittle on as a project. Elliot was a beer seller who spoke with a heavy Bostonian accent. He was described as someone with unruly appearance and dressed informally. However, he was a kind man who readily lent a helping hand to anybody. As a contrast, Hannah Higgins was a Harvard-educated female professor and education consultant who had trouble relating to voters when she ran for office. She had prim and proper attitude that public considered her "She's such a cold fish, you know?" Elliot and Hannah were like oil and water, two very different people but they worked together to create a more "presentable" Elliot.
The most obvious change is the setting in which the story of Pygmalion takes place within London, England in the early 20th century where a huge wealth gap exists between the upper-class and low-class people. Social inequality is the prevalent in which the rich lives in a nice house while the poor lives in the street scrapping for food. On the contrary, The Makeover takes place in the modern setting in a city called Boston, the USA in which majority of the society are in middle-income class. This gives the audience the comfort and familiarization with the characters in the movie, but it is in contrast with Shaw's social view which, in that particular period of history, is characterized by a particularly rigid social hierarchy in which power was in the hands of men.
