The Old Timer's Game by Terrence Rafferty

Rafferty's ability to get his point across and get an in depth description of an object with such few words makes his writing more enticing to the reader; although he uses complex adjectives in his writing, it is always easy to understand. Clearly, Rafferty has mastered the use of adjectives in writing. While reading this text I found it funny the fact that I didn't get bored and I was actually looking forward to find out what would have happened in the next page, almost like watching a movie. I don't know the game of baseball and how it works but I appreciated Rafferty's passion and interest for the sport, and I really liked it. Terrence Rafferty's use of adjectives is (for a foreign student like me) one of the most helpful examples of English writing to learn, his style can be considered a template model to use when you want to write a paper that says explicitly what you are Imagining "Writing Thoughts".
Rafferty is capable of seducing the reader with his descriptions of the story: "A fascinating creature-a monster of mythic proportions, bellowing and thrashing and belching fire right to the end" (131) or again in the passage: "And his gestures have a kind of savage abruptness, an aura of impatience that charges every moment with the threat of brutality. It's a fearless, scary, exhilarating performance" (133). You can clearly see that the author is good at depicting the characters of the article (Cobb in particular) to the point that by the end of the reading you feel like you actually know the ball player.
