In addition, we should grab our scrubs from the laundry in the morning before coming to this area.
September 21, 2015, was the day of the complete fulfilling of my wish. I woke up early before the alarm started to ring. Prepared myself and to the school of nursing, I headed. My friends were waiting for me. I got my stuff and with enthusiasm murmuring my favorite unit, Here I Come! We got the scrubs from the laundry, signed our names with the security, changed our clothes and our day started. Miss Hala got us special jackets and veils to wear which they were specified to this sterile area. Yes it was a sterile area. Can't believe it! We were there! We were in the Operation Rooms where medical surgical operations are done to patients. Learning and getting much of needed information about this area was our main objective to achieve.
All are dressed with the same color of scrubs, which was light blue – grey who were circulating and moving in the area. They were like smurfs moving in their own island, organized each for his duty, and like a family supporting each others. The unit was sorted by restricted and semi-restricted areas. The semi-restricted ones do not focus much on infection control since it is out of reach to restricted area and determined by white floor, which are the circulating desk, the corridor, the recovery unit and the pain management room. The restricted area is determined by black floor and mainly care for preventing infections from occurring. The team working was very helpful to us and to each others. When you enter to the OR, a big desk appears to you. It is the circulating desk, where nurses occupy it and manage the schedules, surgeries timing, equipment, and a list of who enters and leaves the OR. This observation is due to the restriction that this area has. All surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses and others who are part of the OR unit were known and had their own scrubs in a machine (scrubtex).
