Carbon Monoxide

Carbon monoxide is a very dangerous gas. It has no odor, no taste, and is indivisible. Carbon monoxide happens from incomplete combustion of woods, gas, charcoal, propane, natural gas, and oil. It is found mostly in low levels in the air. Like for example one place would be the fireplace inside a home. That is why there is a thing you have to turn so that the carbon monoxide goes up through the chimney and out of the house. It is dangerous for the carbon monoxide to be flowing in the house and for people to breathe it in because it could lead to death. The reason it is so bad for a person is that when it is inhaled, "it passes from the lungs into the hemoglobin molecules of red blood cells." It "binds to hemoglobin" and creates carboxyhemoglobin, which interferes with oxygen transport and exchange of red blood cells. The body does not get enough oxygen and it can cause tissue damage or death. People can also get carbon monoxide poisoning. They can have shortness of breath, headaches, nausea, fainting, results of unconsciousness, or permanent brain damage.
Now there is such thing as a carbon monoxide detector. It goes off before the carbon monoxide causes any health hazards to anyone. They go off before a person starts experiencing symptoms. If it does go off then you should evacuate that place, get fresh air immediately, see a doctor, and get professional help to check the place. Each place needs a detector because you never know whether or not carbon monoxide is present or not. It might be too late when you find out if you do not have a detector. .
It relates to chemistry because carbon monoxide is a chemical. In chemistry, people work with chemicals to find out things. Different chemicals have different reactions and properties. Chemicals can be tested. Carbon monoxide has obviously been tested and it has been proved that it can lead to death. That is why it was tested that a detector could detect the problem before the carbon monoxide caused serious conditions.
