Of Mice and Men

Dreams, Not Only Just For Some, Bet For Everyone.
Just a desire in the mind of what people truly, deeply want in order to live in happiness for the rest of their lives. In Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, George & Lennie and Curley's wife have hopes and dreams for the future. George & Lennie want their own ranch, and Curley's wife wants the attention of the entire country. Hopes and dreams are the reason why people keep living life to it's fullest.
George & Lennie, two wandering "bindle stiffs", have spent the majority of their adult lives together and know each other better than they know anybody else in the entire world. George, like most people during the 1930's, enjoys gambling, liquor and spending money on women. However, he made a promise to Lennie's Aunt Clara to look after Lennie. They share their hard times and the good, their victories and their defeats, but most importantly they share a common dream. That dream is of having "a little house and a couple of acres an' a cow and some pigs an' live off the fatta the lan'"(14), where Lennie can take care of the rabbits just as George has been taking care of him over the years. This is Lennie's chance to pay George back for all of the kindness that he has had bestowed upon him out of his true love and loyalty towards George.
Curley's wife is the wife of the boss son, Curley. She is lonely and different because she is a woman. An old lover, who promised to write, promised her fine things in show business. She never got letters, and blamed it on her family, and left home. "An" I coulda sat in them big hotels, an" had pitchers took of me," (89). She had that chance, but it was taken away from her on several occasions. But she still has hope that her dream will come true.
What drives you to keep living? Do you have hopes and dreams for the future? Everybody's answer to both those questions should be "yes". We all need something to hope for.
