             This idea that geographical processes shows to what extent geography is being used daily and for many important tasks. .
             Geography plays an important, sometimes life saving role in many ways throughout the world. At the moment geographers are at the fore front of volcanic research and thanks to new ways of assessing and understanding volcanoes and the processes associated with them. Clive Oppenheimer, BA PhD is a lecturer at Cambridge University and has been researching geographical techniques to do with volcanology. .

             Oppenheimer's work is a fundamental in helping with hazard assessment and to help understand the processes involved in volcanology. Many of his newly produced techniques have been put into practice in volcano observatories for routine surveillance. Due to the nature of these volcanoes, monitoring the nature gas out flow of vents in and around the area of a volcano can help scientists and geographers predict volcanic eruptions and warn local villages and/or towns. This geographical process is very important where an active volcano, such as Vesuvio in Italy forms the back drop to Napoli, a densely populated town. This volcano can be very dangerous with many different types of eruptions from huge explosions to lava flows. Geographers and scientists need to identify times of eruption in time to warn the town people and save lives. It can be seen in this case as this is a n active volcano that geography is not dead, but is actually a highly important topic for the people of Napoli.
