The Future of English

In my essay I would like to discuss the article "The future of English" and English as the language of the world in general. In my opinion, this article is very useful to read because for me as for the future philologist every change and development of this language is very important and significant. Nowadays English plays a major role in our society. It is the language spoken widely in all world religions. English is the language of the world's politics, economics, culture, business, etc.
The author of this article insists that English is not the language of the future. He says that in the middle of the XXI century English will be joined by three or four other "big" languages. It will happen because everything in the world is changing, so is the economic shape of the world. Patterns of trade and travel will encourage different enthusiasms for language learning. Languages other than English may become important regional business languages. Already the number of learners of Mandarin as a second foreign language is on the increase, Spanish is the primary language for trade in Latin America, and so on. Furthermore, author insists on thought that the world of the XXI century is likely to be multilingual. .
As regards the young generation, the author says that global satellite and the Internet provide its cultural experience. Earlier all web sites in the Internet were in English, but now more and more material is becoming available in languages other than English. Search engines support multilingual information gathering. We can no longer assume that "the Internet is in English", or use this as a justification for the need to learn the language. And soon, English may not be the language that teenagers associate so readily with the style and role models supplied by films, music or fashion.
In this article the author also raises the question - What kind of English needs to be taught in the XXI century? It is very difficult to say what is better: to learn British English or a variant of English.
