In the United States 400,000 people die annually and around the world four million people die annually. Now if you were curious to which they die from it is something that you witness or possibly do everyday, and that is smoking cigarettes. It makes you wonder why that there are 46.5 million smokers in the United States, and 1.2 billion in the world. This problem is one of the major killers of our society today, and if current patterns of smoking persist, over 5 million people currently younger than 18 years old will die prematurely to a tobacco related disease (http://www.worldbank.org/html/extdr/hnp/hddflash/hcnote/hrn001.html). Not only has cigarettes led to a great portion of deaths but more people have died from cigarette deaths than narcotics, World War 1 and 2, and the Vietnam War combined (Bailey 1). The pack also tells you that by quitting now it will greatly reduce risks to your health. If that isn't concrete enough evidence for you to quit, how about the 4,000 chemicals, and that includes 200 known poisons. One of the main reasons smoking continues is because of a very addictive drug in it called nicotine.
