Charlie Chaplin

The willingness of the mother to welcome Charlie in her home once she finds out the kid he has being watching over belongs to her gives tells the audience everything will turn out for the best. The end of the film also reflects the happy ending Charlie wanted for his own life when he was a child in France. In reality he was unable to lead a stable home life with a mentally disturbed mother and an older brother as a father figure. Charlie felt the pain of the mother taking the child as a baby and putting him in a car as in retrospect without a mother or father the same thing had happened to him. Instead of being a worthless pauper at a police station left with nothing, Charlie brings mother, son and himself together for a fairytale ending. "The Kid" displays a strong story of will, heart and the power of emotions which will continue to be felt by audiences but will always have a deeper meaning based on the experiences of the real kid, Charlie Chaplin.
Worldwide there have only been a few comedians in the last 100 years who have been able to catch a glimpse of Charlie Chaplin and mimic his creativity as an artist. Robert Downy Jr. did a phenomenal job in "Chaplin" with physical proficiency and characterization but an even greater influence of our time is Jim Carrey. With a physical prowess and uncanny demeanor that has rarely been seen since the days of Chaplin, Jim Carrey's outgoing and extremely outrageous character took America by storm in 1994's "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective". From the quick crackle of his goofy laugh down to the flips, turns and erratic movements, Jim Carrey is a more intense, up-to-date version of Charlie Chaplin. Jim takes physical comedy one-step further by overcoming the audience with humor in his speech and facial expressions. Charlie was mostly an improvisational actor who couldn't use sound but instead used props, gimmicks and ingenuity to become a master of his trade.
