CLINTON

Even after psychological counseling, Lewinsky continued grab the attention of men with constant gifts and a flirtatious attitude. This is what eventually attracted Clinton and began the short term sexual relationship between the two (Green).
The scandal began when Lewinsky was subpoenaed in the Paula Jones case. In this case Jones claims sexual harassment against the president. During the hearing prosecutors focused on Lewinsky's relationship with the president. As Lewinsky's relationship with the president became more distant she confined details of both her feelings and the President's behavior with her supposed friend Linda Tripp. Unknown by Lewinsky, Tripp was illegally recording phone conversations to aid Republican persecution. The tapes would later be delivered to Kenneth Starr who was an independent council appointed by congress to investigate the president on various other matters. Many believe Tripp's evolvement in the case came about by her friend, Goldberg, who is an independent book agent. The theory is that Goldberg plotted with Tripp to create the scandal and make a profitable book deal. Tripp claims that she was morally offended by the president's action and proposed that it was her civic duty to expose the information. She then provided independent council Starr with the tapes in her possetion and the talking points, a document that "points to make in affidavit." Prosecutors believed that this document was an attempt to encourage Tripp to lie about allegations in the Paula Jones case. On January 13th, 1998, just one day after Tripp informs Starr of the information she has "Starr equips Tripp with a hidden wire to tape Lewinsky during lunch at a suburban Virginia restaurant" (http://www.cincypost.com/starr/timeline/index.html). Four days later Clinton denies under oath having sex with Lewinsky. The story is then released to the public allowing further investigation by Starr.
