Careers in the Media Industry

Many student programmers are drawn to the media industries and entertainment industry. Careers in print journalism, broadcasting or public relations rely upon excellent organizational skills, communication skills and creativity. Careers in entertainment also rely on creativity, excellent interpersonal skills and often performance talent. In this essay, I will offer my insight into these fields and how my experience in campus activities will prepare me for the challenges of the working world. I am currently a studnet leader and my involvement include serving as the sports editor for the campus newspaper and as an on-air personality for the campus radio station. This can help me in the future, with conducting interview with athletes and coaches (as a sports writer in the future). Right now I am larning how to let go and when to put my foot down. What I value most about my campus involvement is that other members of the campus community respect me as someone who cared about the university community as a whole. You learn people skills, which I think is the number one attribute for a person to have in any field. I am acquring many organizaitonal skills in my roles, from time management ot planning various meetings, from large meetings with a staff of 70 to smaller one-on-one meetins with the dea. I think the greatest things I'm learning, though, was how people skills play a important role in your everyday life. My job as a leaderis to keep all of the people with me happy with each other so everyone can get their job done. Showing my stress and anger in any situation does no one any good. Emotions are like a virus, and if you are in a bad mood or react the wrong way to someone, it gets protrayed to all those around you. Whether its five or 50 people, no one wants to see a grummpy or aggravated person. .
