Self Help Books

Men and women communicate differently. That could be one of the biggest understatements ever. But it is also a valued principle that many authors have used to their advantage to make a huge profit. Specifically, I am talking about John Gray, Deborah Tannen, John Gottman, and Susan Page. These four writers have written their own respective versions of what Men and Women are like and what they do similarly and differently. They mostly voice different views but collectively they do acknowledge and emphasize the different communication styles and barriers that are present between men and women.
#Let's start with the king of the relationship quandary himself, Mr. John Gray. He is the author of the infamous Men are from Mars; Women are from Venus book series. This is the book that launched a thousand sequels not to mention many more copycat copies. #His own book titles cover subjects ranging from Professional Relationships at work, Diet remedies, Parenting tips, Bedroom behaviors, to Healing remedies. Of course, all are preceded with the Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus theme.
#John Gray's bread and butter is the cave analogy. It basically says that Men have a symbolic "cave" in them. When men are confronted with issues or problems, we prefer to retreat to the "cave", where we can deal with issues in private. This connected with a lot of people not only because of the simplicity of its context, but its ability to sum up overall reactions that take place in conversations. .
He outlines appropriate phrases and responses that most commonly get misjudged. He then explains how to properly convey the appropriate feelings. For instance, when a woman says, "we never go out," the man gets defensive and replies, "We went out last night and we go out all the time." Gray's point is that instead of taking these statements literally and misunderstanding their intended meaning, we should be more supportive and interpret the messages more clearly.
