Beauty Lies Within

Georgiana, in extreme desperation, goes to the extent of telling Aylmer to do whatever it takes to remove the birthmark, regardless of how dangerous it may be. She could no longer bear the thought that the man who is supposed to love her unconditionally was being so shallow as to desire to remove an asset essential to her uniqueness. If Aylmer were unable to remove this birthmark, she would rather die than live with the knowledge that he found her repulsive. .
By this time, Aylmer already had everything planned out. He began to feel so confident in his abilities, that he no longer cared about the possible dangers of the procedure. He would eliminate that flaw, whatever the risk. Aylmer was so insensitive in his desire to perform this procedure on Georgiana. He did not want to experiment on her because he loved her, but because he loved science. His endless desire was to have the ability to change what God had created in His own image and likeness. Because of Georgiana's blemish, Aylmer became more deeply united with science than he did with his own wife. He felt that nothing could stand in the way of him achieving perfection in Georgiana. In reality, by removing her birthmark, Aylmer is playing God. .
In an attempt to warn Aylmer of his hazardous desires, Georgiana voices her concern that the birthmark may reach all the way to her heart. This meant that the birthmark was an essential part of her being because God created her with that specific uniqueness. Completely disregarding Georgiana's admonition, Aylmer proceeds to create concoctions that he believes will cure her from her earthly imperfection. After a time, even he begins to doubt that his chemical combinations will be successful in removing the birthmark. Aylmer became intimidated by the power of God and nature. He thought that if he followed through with the procedure, it would initiate a conflict in nature. In this conflict, all of the world would determine a reason to curse.
