Microcomputers and education

How Microcomputers Changed Technology in Education.
The textbook definition for a microcomputer is a small stand-alone computer system designed for use by one person at a time. By entering the world of education it became a lot more than that. Some say that the microcomputer changed the education field forever. I agree, in my opinion the microcomputer has made a lasting impression on our youth and what they can achieve in their lifetime.
After the integration of microcomputers into the classroom, educators now have the ability to choose the uses of the computer at their disposal. Finally teachers can use computers to help students by incorporating a more personal touch to their work. Now educators can choose the time their students get this hands on study as well as the program. This really is the mile marker that begins all others.
With the dawning of this new era, comes along another great bonus. The microcomputer can help teachers with their work as well. Records can now be kept in a safer place requiring less time to document. These microcomputers can also help educators to stay more up to date with any new up and coming programs and developments being made every day. It is sometimes hard for teachers to communicate with each other as often as they would like, these stand alone computers give us the option to open the lines of communication. .
Not all students are able to attend a regular classroom setting. With the help of microcomputers, we can now educate these people as well. Teachers can design a specialty course to be done on a home microcomputer to be returned on a disk or via e-mail. .
Now we can approach a problem that has been haunting our youth for decades. They just aren't motivated to do the work at hand. One way of helping these at risk students is by giving them a feeling of control of their learning potential. When they can truly feel the fact that they are learning and that they want to learn, we have achieved our goal as educators.
