America

"Everywhere I go, everyone's playing solitaire" (Brewer 1). Personally, every time I get on the computer I seem to find it necessary to play at least one game of solitaire. It is not even to just play one game, but win one game. Numerous people would be lying if they didn't agree. I feel that who ever first thought to put solitaire on a computer thought of it as some sick joke to get people fired. From personal experience, I have seen how computer solitaire has caused people problems. Solitaire causes people to lose jobs, be embarrassed by others, as well as causes students not to learn. .
I can recall my freshman year in English class, my teacher, who shall remain nameless, would often give us what we considered busy work. We would have to do vocabulary in small groups or do work from grammar books. My teacher would then go sit down at her computer and "work" there for the rest of the period; this often bothered me. Out of curiosity, I decided to see what she was doing. I proceeded to walk up to her desk and ask her a question. As I stopped at her desk, I noticed that she clicked the minimize button on whatever she was doing. I asked my question and just before I left, I noticed that she popped the screen back up and it was none other than computer solitaire. I was completely appalled; I mean here she was supposed to be teaching us to further our education and lead us into the bright future, but instead she was playing computer solitaire! This teacher's obsession with the game caused many problems amongst her students. When I went back to my seat, I mentioned this surprising new fact to one of my friends. Little did I know, that half the class already knew of her fascination. This fascination caused my class to lose a lot of respect for this teacher, which also caused us not to learn anything that year. As I look back, I don't recall ever writing a paper or taking a real test besides finals and vocabulary tests in the class.
