A "hero" has been defined as many things, for example, in mythology and legend, a man, often of divine ancestry, who is endowed with great courage and strength, celebrated for his bold exploits, and is favored by the gods. Another is a person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life, and finally a hero could be a person noted for special achievement in a particular field. Of the three definitions that I have found of a hero, I feel that the last one applies most to my "hero." Steven Spielberg has been through many barriers throughout his career. Many have doubted him on his work, but still he manages to overwhelm us all. Spielberg is one of those people you would want to just pick apart his brain for a day. The thoughts and ideas that this man has come up with in the past are just remarkable in his own unique way. In all of his films combined the viewer has experienced every emotion known to mankind; whether its crying, laughter, anger, wonder, or admiration, Steven really knows how to put on a show.
Steven Spielberg was born December 18, 1946, in Cincinnati. His father's work as an electrical engineer led to a change of jobs and home every few years. Young Steven remembered himself as always being the new kid on the block or the new kid at school. After a few moves, the family settled in Arizona. Growing up was hard in a way that he was Jewish, his mother, Leah, tried to stay away from the fact and plopped the family right into Gentile, USA. Steven was never ashamed of his roots, just that everyone around him disliked his heritage. As a kid in Phoenix, Steven Spielberg charged admission to his home movies while his sister sold popcorn. Even at the youngest of ages, Steven would always seem to be putting on a show. What seemed like everyday, he was always tormenting his three younger sisters, as many older brothers might do.
