Personal statement

By the age of twelve, I had definitely decided to pursue my higher education in England. The unrivaled A level program and the prestige of British Science struck me from the very first that nowhere can better facilitate the attainment of my goals than England.
At Bellerbys College in Cambridge, I am stimulated by the company of a diverse, able group of students, in a liberal and advanced academic environment. I make good use of every opportunity to enlarge my scientific knowledge, enhancing my critical thinking and honing my proficiency in English, both oral and written. The fact that I am the youngest in my class by at least one year means that I must work extremely hard in order to excel in all my highly competitive courses. These exertions have already paid off as I was awarded the silver certificate in the UK Senior Mathematics Challenge in November 2002 , the gold certificate in the UK Senior Mathematics Challenge in November 2003 and Bellerbys College's prize for the most promising AS student in June 2003.
I remember watching a Discovery program with my mother, our daily habit, about the work of biochemists in the International Olympic Committee laboratory detecting banned substances. My mother, having a BSc in Physics, helped me understand the program. Since then Biochemistry, as my dreamed career, holds both challenge and miracle to me. In my high school in Viet Nam, I was selected to become my Chemistry teacher's assistant in practical lessons, out of 43 students! At present, my desire is to continue after my BSc to an MSc and PhD, specifically in neuroscience.
There is a personal reason for my interest in Neuroscience. Three years ago, my grandfather, with whom I am the favourite, had the first symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. To see the tragic deteriotation in his condition inspired me with a determination to conduct research on the biochemical process of forming our memory.
